I think I killed it.
« on: January 10, 2010, 02:06:32 »
ok, I wanted to uber up Angelwing so I could have some good old fashioned OP fun in the mission mode, so I did the whole thing with unpacking Nexus_00.dat with datool and moved nexus_00 from the nexus folder (I had been told this was necessary for my changes to be read). Then I changed (in tacticstypes.ini) the deviceslots in Angelwing to those that are in a heavy battleship, ramped up the velocity, and I also went into npcs.ini to ramp up the skill points of Cromwell. So I tried to turn on nexus and it kept crashing. Then I put neus_00 back and when I tried it again it had an error message that read

"File: universetextssystextsgsdeb_captions.ini
Line: 12

>>>End<<<

Description: Duplicate text ID."

What did I do?
What the hell does that mean?
How do I fix it?

I really don't know what I'm doing and would appreciate the help.

You have both the nexus_00.dat and the unpacked files out of the open, so nexus is reading everything twice and it is quite upset about it. Move the unpacked folders somewhere else ( a backup folder, for instance) and then try again.

well, the same you did before. Move the nexus_00.dat to the backup folder and copy (or cur) the edited folders back to nexus' main directory. Think of them as... fighty brothers :P they can't be in the same room together or something bad will happen XD

Well, when I do that (with just the extracted folders) nexus_Dx9.exe crashes. Could it be steam not liking what I'm doing?

It's probably nexus not liking what you've done. But I fear that I'm of little assistance there... There's about 200 prossible reasons for such a crash :P

You're going to have to take this one small step at a time I'm afraid.

Work your way back through the changes you made (restoring them to their original values) one by one, testing Nexus each time (or the other way round if you prefer, re-introduce your changes one by one. But keep checking!).

Something to bear in mind though, is that some of the keyships' stats are required for the story and if Nexus can't find elements like these while it's loading/checking itself, then it'll sulk.
Better to look the fool by asking, then prove them right with ignorance.

Ok, problem solved. Thx for the tips.

By the way, while I'm here, how would I go about changing the equip so there's massive amounts of it so I don't run out of available equipment when loading them onto the ship?

open the mission files, they're in the missions/epsiodes/ folder
Look where it says "addDeviceToStock(**)", there is the name of the device plus a number, that number is quantity that would be available in the fleet loadout.

Whatever text editor you want, but I'd advice either notepad or notepad++,if you're familiar with it.
