Help with creating missions
« on: October 31, 2010, 23:34:32 »
I have played through Nexus and loved it so I downloaded this skirmisher to make my own custom missions for fun.

However I am having trouble understanding how to do it right apparently. Just to start out I will make a simple mission, 1 on 1. I make both ships, one on each side. I've done basic loadouts and more complex ones. However when I start it.. I have no control. Both ships are listed on the enemy side.. but they fight each other anyway.. or rather the one that is supposed to be my ship will dodge and evade but not fire, while the other one pummels it to death. Then it tells me I failed the mission of course, but... I couldn't even control the ship! The normal controls aren't even shown at the bottom of the screen.. all it will let me do is watch.

Is there something I am missing in making these missions? I can't figure it out.

Sounds like you changed the race of the first fleet. That option is really misleading, I have to admit - if you set it to anything else than "race_player" you'll not be able to control your ships, because they'll be AI-controlled instead.

Just set race to "race_player" and you should have full control over your ships. Only other explanation I could think of would be a faulty Skirmisher or mod installation. ;)

Or perhaps mistakenly selecting the 'Cinematic' mission type?

Thank you Arparso that was indeed my problem. I did not realize that changing the race meant setting it to AI control. It did seem redundant to pick race as say Spacetech and then select Stilleto so that makes sense now. I should be able to work it normally now.
