Shield Texture
« on: May 29, 2010, 01:18:42 »
Hello all,

It's nice to see an active community for this great game!  I'm currently working on a little mod, and I'd like to nullify the stock shield impact visual effect.  I'm pretty sure the shield mesh is hardcoded, but I'd be satisfied if I could at least make the impacts invisible.  Can anyone tell me how to replace the stock shield textures with invisible ones?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, just make an appropiate shield-texture and place it in your mod's /textures/fx folder under the name "shgrid_a.tex" and it should overwrite the cannon one.

I tried that and it didn't take.  Since I'm using an extracted DAT, I even tried renaming the original so it wouldn't load, but it didn't make a difference.  I'm using an all black 512X256 .tga converted into a .tex, if it means anything.  Is there anywhere else I should look for the texture that's being loaded instead of mine?  Is there a setting in an .ini file or something?

no, nothing like that at all. Could you send me your texture? I'll see if I can get it in-game and let you know about it.
