Title: Nexus 2

It's not a certainty, but it does seem like great news none the less:

Just read about it on Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/pressreleases/75978/Most_Wanted_team_up_with_GamesPlant_to_bring_Nexus_2_tofans.php)... very surprising news indeed. Not sure what to think about their plans... on one hand I'm excited about the prospect of a Nexus sequel finally becoming a reality, against all odds. On the other hand I'm a bit worried, if they really can pull this off. First to reach the funding target of $400.000, then to actually create the game with their rather small team... although there should be some Nexus veterans working at Most Wanted Entertainment.

/edit:
On a side note, IF they manage to get funded and finish development on it, I hope they'll think of a skirmish mode this time around - I'd hate to have to code a "Nexus 2 Skirmisher" :D

... ok, jk, I'd love to!

Oh my freaking god! I can not believe this.

I'm jumping up and down, yelling with excitement!!! Thank the Gods of Kobol for bringing this project into fruition.

Does anyone know if they have a website?

If we want this project to succeed, then we have to help with our wallets. I'm gonna donate €250 Euro.

Will you? At least a dollar, you can do that right? Instead of your weekly, or daily sweets, how abou you chip in a bit... Anything.

Hey, how about we collect some questions to ask the development team? That is, depending on if we'll be able to contact them and if they'll be willing to talk about it.

I'd specifically like to ask about any planned mod support for Nexus 2.

What'd you want to know?

Some of my issues are with functionality of the game and not so much directly related to modding (as in scripting).

My one big issue with modding in of itself is that we can't fully customize the UI. I'd like to know if that's possible.

If the engine is being updated, it might remedy all of the other issues I have right now.

Well... everything they'll care to tell us about the modding aspects, specially how will it compare to Nexus 1.
Also, if the engine's being updated or done from the ground up.

That is incredible news. I only hope this is not any form of fraud because I would be pissed to donate 250€ (if I could, I would give more) and find out I was raped by some bastards.

Anyway, I'm getting this news on Herniweb.cz and it should spread on other Czech gamming webs from there.

Topic about "Future of Nexus Modding" is really getting new direction.

And yes questions, we must send some questions.

I read through all of the T&C papers and it seems legit. The thing is, GamesPlant is a fundraiser system and that's it. They're doing this to make money, they're not the ones making the game. In the legal docs it says that GamesPlant gets a %15 cut (which they can legally increase whenever they want), which takes about 120,000 euros away from the development team. Sucks, but nothing you can do about it :|

15% of 400.000 is 60.000, though, and PayPal is very likely taking a fair share of it as well (about 3% I think) ;)

Yeah, kinda sucks. Giving the money directly to the developers would be preferrable, but then we wouldn't have this sort of guarantuee of only being charged, when the project meets its funding goal.

There's still some risk involved regarding the developer meeting the 400.000€ goal and taking your money, but then never finishing the damn game (because of bankruptcy, delays, economic crisis, whatever).

Just read the Q&A of GamesPlant. They state that PayPal's handling fee is included in the 15% (they put 5% on PayPal's fee).

This is indeed GREAT news!  8) And still plenty of time to decide on what amount of contribution.

Yeah, that's the same press release as on Gamasutra, that I posted a link to earlier.

I don't think there's much left to confirm - it's very much official by now. ;)

Just got a reply from MWE

Hi Andrew,

I can officially assure you it is not a scum :).

We have been trying to make the sequel together with publishers for many years but we all know how wary publishers are of space games, so the discussions never evolved into actual contracts.

When GamesPlant approached us, we decided that this could be the way to make our dreams come true.

Best,
Zsolt

Also got an answer regarding modding support:

Quote
Hi Mario,

Thanks for your email.

We’ll post more details of the game in the upcoming weeks. The modding options will be one of the most important details, of course.

Best,
Zsolt

Seems like modding support is sort of confirmed, I guess. :)

If we were to have the chance to share our thoughts, I'd want to know:

•If the game could be touchscreen compatible? i.e. Tablet PC's (Windows 8, iOS, WebOS)

•What has the team done to make Multiplayer play more enticing?

•What have you upgraded in Blacksun Engine, and what couldn't you expand upon? (Ship Count, Hardpoints, etc.)

Is Vice Admiral Aurthor Norbank still with us? :) (I loved him!)

I'd like to know if in/for Nexus 2 they put the solar system stuff "upside down", or inverted how planets rotate ingame, or simply put the textures on their head. Remember how the planets orbit clockwise (instead of counter-clockwise) ingame, and the planets rotate the other way around?

I'd like to know more about the modding aspects of Nexus 2... and would the devs think about supporting Nexus:TJI again?  Releasing more of the dev tools (for campaign modding, etc) or hosting a main mp server for both games. Although it's a long shot, if we could get our hands on some of the source as well then maybe we could remove some of the hard coded limits...

Arparso, could you link your news post "Nexus 2 back in development, looking for funding" with Nexus - Fan Group on ModDB? This way all modders should be able to link the news with their mods also witch would mean more support for it..

Scheisse, It seems that does not work as it should. There goes the idea........ stupid system. Try anyone else to link it with his /her mod too, so we will see if that really works. Anyway, if anyone is posting any news, link it with Nexus Fan Group too. It is one of the biggest fan groups on ModDB, so we should use it to promote each other.

Just a quick thought, I wonder if we could get ModDb themselves to run an article on Nexus2 in their newsletters? Might be a way to reach those folks who probably aren't aware...

Title: Re: Nexus 2
Post by: The Old Dragon on February 10, 2012, 09:08:01
Well, those who pledged funds have been listed as 'supporters' rather than a message saying"Thanks, but we didn't make it. Bye, bye.", I'll take that as sign that they're looking into their back up plans for the acquiring the rest of the money.

Still hoping...
Title: Re: Nexus 2
Post by: Arparso on February 10, 2012, 17:23:01
Yeah, I saw that list of supporters. Curiously enough I didn't find myself on it, which makes me wonder if my pledge was actually received or if I ended up as one of the anonymous supporters for whatever reason... :(

Ah, well... whatever the case, wouldn't have saved the project anyway.

What makes me especially bitter is the tremendous success of Double Fine's fundraiser:
Double Fine Adventure @ Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure)

They wanted to raise $400.000 in 33 days and reached their goal after only 8 hours. 8 hours! Now, only a day after start, they already have more than three times the money they actually aimed for (and it's still growing). I mean, kudos to them for being so successful and I wish them all the best and all... but the fact, that Nexus 2 wasn't able to get a significantly lower amount of money in a much much MUCH longer timespan is rather sad, I guess. :(

Now, at least the average Nexus 2 supporter pledged about 10 times the money the average Double Fine supporter did... that alone tells me a lot about the sheer dedication of the fanbase here.

Especially for this project i have updated my paypal account.
I followed the progress every week over the last months.
Now it's kinda over.
Indeed as The Old Dragon says, we are still listed as supporters.
Maybe there's a glimmer of hope.

Arparso, i saw the link of Kickstarter as well.
Man amazing, that they've reached their target well before the date and surpassed it
by a Lot.

Well for real space gamers like us, it is clear that we are a tiny minority, which is reflected in the coldest and hardest possible way.......Money..dudes.

Anyway, i can still enjoy myself with the modding.....with the help of our community.

Wow! Looks like the Games-planet site is down for good. I have a placeholder popup when I click the link in the Nexus 2 article...

Also, I received a mail by PayPal that my pre-approved payment plan to a certain Pixonauts-KG will expire within the next 10 days. I'm guessing these two are the same.

At a guess, I'd say that Gamesplant 'rents' the webspace they need at the time? Now that the deadline has passed it's not practical or cost efficient to keep the page up.

Still hoping one of the devs back up plans kicks in.  ;)
