Beautiful. :)

Did you create them inverted?
I don't see polar caps on Mars? Out of view?

Hit a snag with Phobos and Deimos though. Texture doesn't seem to wanna cahnge

I'm not surprised with Phobos. The mesh needs more then one texture.

phobos, phobos01, and phobos02.

Deimos uses asteroid_1024x512_012.

Some of those texture files in the textures\planets folder are not used, or double up.

HAHAHAHAHA

I see, someone got really tired of having to deal with UV mapping ;D

Lovely shots Sargoth, look awesome.
Not surprised they got tired of mapping :) Had a look at Phobos's mesh - it's got almost 3k polys!

Whoever did this has my sympathies. I never wrapped my head around UV mapping (pun intended). It's a frustrating part of modeling

I don't even know what that means. Ultra-Violet mapping?

'Barely' 2,5k polies, Dragon. ;)
But I bet that they put alot more love in the Gorg fighter, even if its RCS thrusters don't work.

It's the map coordinates for how the texture is shown on a 3d object. And it's a headache doing it right, at least for me

Very true Geo, I'll blame the old grey cells for that one :) But it's still a heck of a lot for manual mapping.

In normal mapping (i.e. building a model) you work in the axis of X, Y & Z.  In UV mapping, you work in the U & V axis.

I daresay that's something we can fix in the CEP ;)

Modern versions of lightwave (and some other third party programs) now have integrated tools to make the process easier, managed to make a quick UV map for Phobos in about five minutes - not sure how easy it would be to create a texture for it though...

Underneath & Vertical? :P
Anyway, way out of my bailiwick.

Just wondering, would it be a service to have a list of observed mesh/model errors/malfunctions available, or would that come over too daunting?

Problem with the ingame Phobos is that they've cut out the top and bottom section from the main model. I've put it back together, but whatever I do the UV cords remain. And my better Phobos texture gets cut off. I'd like to have a look at this new UV texture of yours ;)

Certainly Sargoth, I've put a copy of the .lwo model and .tiff file of the UV map in my folderfor you.

Hi Sargoth, did that map help any?

I haven't tested it yet. But from what I saw of it, very unlikely. I'm more interested in the model itself. Getting it to only use a single texture will be for the best. But I feel I'm going to struggle with it, so I kinda have put it off.

And after having a look at the stiletto and texture, I'm dreading doing a lot of the things I wanted to do.

If you want to send me your texture,  I can see if we can get a better map...

What did you have in mind here?

Upping the texture and redoing the bump map

Had a look at phobos last night Sargoth,  think I can make a one piece UV for it but you'll need to rework the texture to remove the seams :(

Can do  ;D

Hey Sargoth,

I've put a new map in my folder for you. I've also included a jpeg showing how it's laid out in regards the the texture. As I said earlier, it'll need some seam work to look good, so it's up to you :)

The CEP causing crashes? How's that even possible when it isn't available for download. :P
