As for the propaganda - yeah, that's tricky. I'm not really participating in the whole Facebook/Twitter/blog craze, so it's hard to actually reach people outside of the folks, who already know what to look for. I've tried to talk about the game in a couple of forums over the years, but never got much response to that.
It certainly doesn't help, that the game is now about 7 years old (wow, really?). Puts off quite some people to deal with such old games.

Good Old Games to release Nexus on their site - would be in good company with the likes of Freespace and I-War and might push the popularity a bit.
