nexus in linux
« on: June 28, 2011, 02:33:21 »
Has anyone tried nexus in linux wine?  MSwin is not something I'd do multi-player on.  Also, I like to be able to use the voice chat. Typing is just way to slow.  Can you do the LAN multi-player for nexus on linux?

I couldn't even got it running on a VM...

I'll post on the winehq and the regular linux forums. I'm trying to get "far cry 2" working. Once I do, I'll more experience to try nexus.

I actually got it running on a WinXP VM in VMware, but my host OS is Windows 7, not Linux... so I don't know about the Linux version of VMware. Performance was expectedly bad, though - barely playable.

I think it has something to do with your video card... My laptop has a hybrid video card (nvidia and intel), but Linux doesn't support that system, so all I can hope for it is to work only with my Intel card. Perhaps if I managed to have *nix run on the Nvidia card...

I got farcry2 to work with a linux program called playinlinux on suse 11.4   Took a few tricks to get it working.  Also, I made a post on the wine forums. Playonlinux uses install scripts.  You could study the install script to learn how to install nexus.

I read the details on winehq. Nexus has some security software that interferes with making it work in linux. If enough people here post on wine forums, they might fix the bugs that causing the problem.

I scanned those files. It found three infected files. NO!    Trust windows security. NO!     Linux only for multi-player. Windows only gets a few mins at a time on the internet to do updates. One virus every got on linux in ten years, the script failed since it didn't have the install password. Heh, as I said linux for nexus.

The more people post on wineHQ the better.
